No Canyon Too Steep
Of the half dozen or so severe climate changes of the past million years, none of those glaciers came as far south as the Santa Cruz Mountains.
The result is that canyons are steep on the sides and narrow at the base because no glacier has rounded things off.
Also, the slopes tend to be unstable, particularly where there aren’t dense redwoods to stabilize the terrain.
That leads to complications when trees need to be removed, and buildings are in the way. Aside from the experience and training required, having the right equipment is essential, and many tree service companies don’t come prepared for that.

Countless big trucks with chippers are seen on the roads.
– Some can handle the job
– Others don’t have
– The Experience
– The Training
. . . . or the right Equipment

Boom trucks are great for
– trimming trees in paved cul-de-sacs, or
– changing lightbulbs in Home Depot parking lots,
. . . . . but they don’t work in mountain areas with narrow roads.
* Track Loaders,
* Walk-behind Stump Grinders, and
* Chippers with Winches
. . . to drag big logs up steep slopes
